TOPAZ ARTS is pleased to present Powers Revealed in Printmaking – a solo exhibition by Tenjin Ikeda – on view October 22 through December 10, 2022. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, Oct 22, 3-6pm, as part of TOPAZ ARTS’ 22nd Year Celebration, including performances of dance by Molissa Fenley, Paz Tanjuaquio, and Huiwang Zhang, and poetry readings by Luis H. Francia and Vina Orden. Admission is complimentary.

In his second solo show at TOPAZ ARTS, Powers Revealed in Printmaking by Tenjin Ikeda features recent prints, installation, and sculpture. Ikeda’s works reveal an external expression of internal dialogues, creating images with an element of storytelling from sacred myths to oral traditions of his upbringing. In his meticulous printmaking process, fine details emerge – uncovering cultural identities and honoring ancestors.

About the Artist:
Tenjin Ikeda is an Afro-Puerto Rican artist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York who works in painting, sculpture, and printmaking. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York initially focusing on graphic design and ultimately Fine Arts. It was at the Art Students League that he discovered printmaking, which has been his focus for over 20 years. He has several works in private collections in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas as well as acquisitions by The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, The Print Club of Albany, and the Art Students League of New York. Tenjin’s work has been featured as cover art and illustrations for various books, including in “Modern Printmaking” on 30 Contemporary Printmakers by Sylvie Covey. He has participated in group shows nationally, and globally in Ireland, Japan, Spain and Australia. Previously, he worked as an artist assistant to Richard Artschwager for six years, and with artist Keith Haring on a mural project at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. @tenjin_ikeda
