TOPAZ ARTS presented a solo
exhibition of new paintings by Haejae Lee “Postulated Space: Home
Americana”.
In this new series, Haejae Lee tackles the idea of "home" and
its conceptual and psychological meanings. Immigrating to the U.S.
as a teenager from Seoul, Korea, the artist experienced many stages
of unprepared adjustment and internal changes, the most significant
shift being the concept of “home”. The motivation
and force behind Lee’s
paintings explore this space
called home—altered, deconstructed,
and built anew. Rather than the interpretation of real space, we
sense an emotional displacement in the detailed imagery depicting
interiors of great American Western houses, reexamining this postulated
space and reconsidering what we know and what we believe about “home”.
