in Queens 2010: Solo Flight
TOPAZ ARTS and the Queens Museum of Art announce an open call for Dance in Queens: Solo Flight – a special dance residency and performance series featuring solo work. Presented as an off-site event during the Queens Museum of Art's expansion, Dance in Queens 2010 will take place at the TOPAZ ARTS Space in Woodside, Queens. This year, the 8th annual contemporary dance residency program focuses on the solo form, offering choreographers concentrated time and a private space to develop new work.
Three soloists will be selected to receive free rehearsal space and a public presentation of their work at TOPAZ ARTS Space. Choreographers will each be awarded with up to six weeks access to rehearsal space at the TOPAZ ARTS studio during July to mid-September 2010, concluding in a shared public performance. Each choreographer will present solo work during an informal showing on Sunday, September 12, 2010.
Dance in Queens began in Summer 2003 as a collaborative project between TOPAZ ARTS and the Queens Museum of Art, to provide opportunities for contemporary dance in the Queens community. Dance in Queens 2010: Solo Flight is funded, in part, by the NYC Dept of Cultural Affairs, New York State DanceForce with funds from NY State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and by the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
