TOPAZ ARTS and Queens Museum of Art present the sixth annual Dance in Queens summer residency and performance series. Taking place Summer 2008, Dance in Queens encourages the creation of new dance works, allowing viewers a rare glimpse of the creative process. New this year, rehearsals will take place both within the galleries of the museum and at TOPAZ ARTS during June-August 2008.

Four choreographers will be selected from a competitive application process. Awardees will receive free rehearsal space, a stipend of $500 and a public presentation of their work at the Queens Museum. Choreographers and their dancers will have up to six weeks access to rehearsal space, with each residency concluding in a performance at the Queens Museum of Art as part of Passport Fridays music, dance, and film program.

Dance Theater Workshop is now accepting proposals for the Outer/Space Creative Residency Program which provides artists with time and space to reasearch and develop their process. Priority consideration is given to artists whose projects are in the earliest stages of development. Resident artists receive 100 hours of free rehearsal space during a six-month period at one of the participating studios, in addition to a $500 stipend. This program is focused on creative development and includes a critical feedback component. Throughout the residency, artists meet with an advisor whose role is to consult with residents on their creative goals and vision, and provide constructive criticism on new material generated during the residency.
